Thanks for your comment Therese. Here we recycle and reuse and don’t generate a lot of trash because we don’t buy individually packaged items and since we don’t have trash service have to pack things directly to the dump or disposal area. You don’t really need the liners but people are just used to them. In previous days we just took out the garbage to the bigger cans every day.

I am trying to phase out plastic at home, but some things are difficult. For example, I’d forgotten what we used to use for garbage bags: namely, paper bags. I think we all switched gladly (no pun intended) because plastic won’t give way when wet. Now, that same property is causing problems for the environment. I think maybe we can compromise with some other material, like carrying an aluminum or other lightweight can to the big garbage instead of taking a plastic bag out, and that way the paper bag inside won’t fall apart on us. There are also compost bins for organic materials that can be used instead of sending it off to a landfill. And plus, you get fertilizer for your plants. There’s even one that you can put under your sink, for all you apartment dwellers.
