    ===============================================
    Spring is a time of new beginnings. This is certainly true of my life and I hope you will find the same to be true.

    The last few weeks have been spent traveling and seeing old pals…including their animals. My train travel adventures were just what I needed and it is nice to see my energy slowly returning.

    I was able to spend a week near the beach and spent many hours on the beach for my birthday.

    My time inside was filled with the antics and warm affection of eight cats and three dogs. Those nieces and nephews are always good for my spirits.

    I’ll be heading to the beach later this month and then maybe up the coast with another animal behaviorist turned psychologist. It has been a long time since I traveled North—there was a time when I did so twice a year.

    Lately I’ve been able to sneak a little reading in and recently finished One Nation Under Dog.

    If you are interested in learning more about current pet trends this book is a great mix of story and research and you can find my review online this week.

    Here is hoping that you spring into summer with new and exciting adventures or projects.

    In the meantime,

    Happy Tails to You & Yours,
    Diana L Guerrero

    2. Discussion for the Month
    ===============================================
    During my travels I have had the opportunity to observe the habits of pet owners around Southern California.

    I’ve been in the animal business for so long that sometimes I forget what the common hurdles pet owners face in their day-to-day activities.

    It was certainly eye opening to see the common errors people make without even thinking about them.

    This is especially relevant as I begin work on my Pet Parenting School because those are the issues that the online course will need to address.

    Allowing animals to run amuck, get rambunctious, allowing play to escalate into biting or scratching, and other activities occur just because people don’t consciously think about how their behavior affects the behavior of their animals during their normal daily activities.

    So, in the near future I am going to be asking you to help me out again with another survey related to the pet care, behavior, and training issues faced by you or your friends.

    I’ll also have some give-aways so keep your eyes open.

    Spring is finally here but not before a cold snap hit the mountains.

    Fortunately I was down in San Diego enjoying myself. I hope you had a great holiday—mine was spent with framily (friends that are family).

    Since I last wrote things have been a bit unsettling but the news is ultimately good.

    The doctors ruled out a couple of diseases (including cancer) that they suspected might have been issues contributing to my symptoms.

    Although they still are not certain what I’ve been facing (and more blood tests are around the corner) I am feeling better.

    With any luck I’ll be able to resume a regular schedule sometime this summer.

    While staying at my friend’s house in the San Diego area, I was able to help train her newly adopted cat.

    He has no restraint and so bites and scratches in play which is probably why he was at the rescue agency for more than six months.

    The fab feline is pretty quick to learn and very creative. I was able to reshape some of his behavior and found it amusing to watch him make up games with the paper bag and balls he was given.

    The nice thing about my trip was that he really took to me and supervised my visit by watching over me while I slept, making sure that I had a good lap warmer, and just spent time being a great pal.

    Funny how animals sense when you need some serious TLC. His actions went a long way to helping me feel better after the drama of the few weeks prior to my visit.

    I hope that you are also enjoying the change in season and the good company of animals.

    Happy Tails to You & Yours,
    Diana L Guerrero

    A couple of people I know have announced a couple of special offers that I thought you might be interested in.

    Danielle Chonody has been operating a successful pet sitting business out of the Texas area for quite some time. I met her in an online program just prior to her launch of the Pet Business Success Circle.

    She has been a pretty busy gal since them and interviews a variety of successful pet business owners and other services that are helpful for obtaining success in the pet sitting business.

    On Tuesday, April 21, 2009 she will be interviewing Robert Nager the owner of Decadent Dog in Needham, MA, who was crowned the 2008 Pet Sitter of the Year by Pet Sitters International on February 19, 2009.

    She had invited those of you who are interested in animal careers to join the call at no charge.

    During the interview they will discuss how Nager has marketed Decadent Dog, hired and managed his sitters, and he will share his customer service tips for wowing his customers and turning them into raving fans.

    Ark Animals subscribers are invited to submit any questions prior to the call directly to Danielle (daniellechonody@gmail.com) and to sign up for the call and get the details click here:

    1. Tales from the Trips (Latest News)
    ===============================================
    Belated greetings to all of you and I hope 2009 is off to a great start.

    February brought a couple of very large snow storms to the area dumping two feet of snow at a time.

    I enjoy the snow because I love to tromp outdoors to see the animal tracks. Here the wildlife can be a bit elusive but the tracks after a fresh snow tell a great story of who has been passing by.

    March is usually the month we get the heaviest snow fall but it has been unseasonable warm and the last storm brought in rain so it will be interesting to see what happens.

    Those of you who have been subscribers for a while know that I’ve been facing some health challenges for a while that have slowed me down.

    As a result I was not able to get out the February newsletter and this issue combines the February and March newsletters.

    I am happy to say that it looks like the doctors will have a diagnosis this month as to what is actually the problem–and I hope to be feeling better soon.

    Having an answer will be a relief—at least then we can address it and it would be nice to be able to tour again and bump up my schedule.

    Anyway, things have been quiet because I have not been up to speed and have been only booking direct referral clients.
    Remember my telling you about the filming last year? My appearances in the Animal Planet series, “Weird, True & Freaky” has really been creating quite the buzz because they are currently airing.

    It seems that every place I go someone stops me to say that they have seen me on the television.

    I’ve done a lot of television throughout my career but it is always nice to see people excited about it.

    Speaking of media…we’ve been upgrading my media site with my most recent photos and information. This has been a huge task and one that began last July!

    I’ve also been pondering ArkAnimals.com and I think you are going to be excited about the changes you will see.

    Happy Tails to Your & Yours,
    Diana L Guerrero

    2. Discussion for the Month: Getting Wild at ArkAnimals.Com
    ===============================================
    In January I asked for feedback from you as to what you would like to see. As I pondered how ArkAnimals.Com has changed over the years, I decided it is time to get back to my roots.

    My background is for wild and domestic animal training and so I am going to blend the two topics more regularly.

    If you read the commentary about Travis the Chimp you have already seen how I have begun to make that shift.

    In addition to my commentary about the chimpanzee attack, I took a look at how the same problems exist between exotic animal pet owners (which is not something I support) and companion animal owners.

    Then I delved a little deeper into the ethics of wild animal ownership as shared by some other professional animal people.

    You’ll find that I’ll be doing more of this type of comparison as I prepare to launch the http://www/PetParentingSchool.Com later this year.

    I’ll continue to visit topics related to pets and new products for animals but you’ll also see more regular features that include: Training Talk, Animal Career Chat,
    Furry Fun, and a few more.

    Eventually I will lock these down into a regular editorial schedule so if you have a specific interest in only one topic you will know when to drop by for the latest coverage.

    In the meantime, you can always catch up through the monthly article round up featured here in the newsletter.

    Don’t forget, if you have a name suggestion for any new features—drop me a line to let me know—you could win a surprise gift if I use it!
